The Parish Council have adopted the Village Phone Box
The future of the phone box was constantly under thereat from BT as phone was almost never used over many number of years and so BT were very keen to disconnect and take the whole thing away.
The Parish Council had for a number of years objected to this notion and with the support of Wilshire Council had successfully fought off attempts by BT to disconnect the line and remove the phone box.
But as BT making its third attempt in as may years to remove the box the Members of the Parish Council finally accepted that eventually it was inevitable that the box would be decommissioned and so triggered the process whereby the Parish Council can adopt the Phone Box for £1 from BT.
With all the paperwork now complete & the phone disconnected, the Phone Box is now in the ownership of the Parish Council. It will be kept as a community library, something it was already being used as and the Council are looking to extend the book shelfing. The electricity will be disconnected and a Resident has offered to help straighten the box, as you may have noticed that at the moment the box is doing an impression of the leaning tower of Pisa.
Rumours that the box is to become an office for the Parish Council Chairman has proved not to be true
